Domestic Violence Awareness
In 1989, Congress declared the month of October to be Domestic Violence Awareness
Month (DVAM). DVAM is a national campaign dedicated to raising awareness to help
end domestic violence. The 2025 United States Violence Experiences Survey found
that 61% of women reported experiencing intimate partner violence in their lifetime,
compared with past research that found 33% of women experience intimate partner
violence. Behind every statistic is a person who deserves safety, support, and hope for
a brighter future. This month, The Calm Collective will be highlighting signs of
abusive relationships.
